Andrea Arnold OBE (born 1961, Dartford, Kent) is an English filmmaker whose work is defined by a fierce commitment to social realism and an unflinching intimacy with female experience. Her debut short Wasp (2003) won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film and launched a career that has produced acclaimed features including Red Road (2006), Fish Tank (2009), Wuthering Heights (2011), and American Honey (2016). Arnold trained at the AFI Conservatory and grew up on a council estate in Dartford, an upbringing that directly informs the texture and politics of her filmmaking.
